Frequently asked questions
About the Luján de Cuyo Wine Tour
How far is Luján de Cuyo from Mendoza city?+
Luján de Cuyo is 25 km south of Mendoza city. The drive takes about 35 minutes each way. It is Argentina's premium wine region, set at the foot of the Andes between 900 and 1,100 m above sea level, which gives its wines a unique character.
Why is Luján de Cuyo considered a premium region?+
Luján de Cuyo was Argentina's first Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) for Malbec, granted in 1993. Its altitude, its continental climate with wide temperature swings and its stony soils produce Malbec of the very highest quality. The country's best-known international brands have wineries here.
How many wineries do we visit on the Luján Wine Tour?+
We visit 3 carefully selected wineries, all of them high-end. The selection includes an iconic winery, a boutique winery with contemporary architecture and a classic winery with a family tradition. Each visit lasts between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes, so you can make the most of the premium tastings.
Which wines will I taste in Luján de Cuyo?+
Malbec is the star of Luján, so you'll taste several styles: young wines, age-worthy wines and signature blends. You'll also taste other varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and high-altitude wines. In total, between 10 and 12 wines over the course of the day.
Is lunch included in the Luján Wine Tour?+
Yes, fully included. It's a 4-course lunch (starter, main, dessert and coffee/petit fours) at a winery restaurant, paired with premium wines. The cooking is chef-driven, usually with local ingredients and options for all diets. Let us know when you book if you have any dietary restrictions.
How is it different from the Maipú Wine Tour?+
Maipú is the historic wine region, with family wineries and more affordable prices. Luján de Cuyo is the high-end region, with premium wineries and higher-value wine production. Maipú is ideal for learning the history. Luján is for gourmet experiences and superior-quality wines. If you're just getting into wine, choose Maipú. If you want to go deeper, Luján.
Do I need to know about wine to enjoy the tour?+
Not at all. Our sommelier guide explains everything from scratch: how wine is made, which grapes are used, and how to look at, smell and taste it. You'll learn a lot on this tour even if you've never tried a Malbec before. People who already know wine enjoy it too, because the selected wineries are of recognized quality.
Can I buy wine at the premium wineries?+
Yes, every winery has a shop. Prices are usually 20% to 30% lower than at specialist wine stores. If you're flying, the wineries offer special packs with flight-certified packaging. They also ship to addresses within Argentina.
When is the best time for the Luján Wine Tour?+
It works all year round. Harvest season (February–March) is the liveliest time, with the harvest in full swing. In autumn (April–May) the vineyards turn spectacular colors. Winter (June–August) is ideal for seeing how the next harvest is prepared. Spring (September–November) brings vineyards in bloom and ideal weather.
How long is the Luján Wine Tour?+
The full tour lasts 9 hours. We leave Mendoza at 9:30 am, make the 3 winery visits with time for in-depth tastings, have lunch along the way (at a winery), and return around 6:30 pm. A full day, well spent.
