An hour and a half on horseback across a farm in Maipú and, once you dismount, a grilled asado (Argentine barbecue) with homemade bread, salads, dessert and wine. Mendoza's most accessible horseback ride, and it leaves your afternoon free.

Gentle horses, instruction before setting off and a family farm half an hour from the city. Ideal for pairing with wineries in the afternoon, or as a first experience on horseback.

Frequently asked questions

About the Criollo Horseback Ride

How is it different from the Horseback Ride with Lunch?+

The Criollo Horseback Ride is shorter (an extended half day), with a 1.5-hour ride and a grilled asado. The Horseback Ride with Lunch is a full day, with 2 hours on horseback and asado a la cruz, plus a free afternoon. Both are authentic; choose based on the time you have and how deep an experience you want.

Do I need experience with horses for the Criollo Horseback Ride?+

No, it's designed for beginners. Before setting off there's a basic briefing on handling and safety. The horses are gentle criollos, used to people who have never ridden. The gaucho guide sets the pace and the ride is at an easy rhythm.

What's served at the asado?+

Grilled asado with local Mendoza cuts (vacío/flank, asado and tira/short ribs), chorizo, morcilla (blood sausage), fresh salads, homemade bread, dessert and Mendoza red wine. If you have dietary restrictions (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.), let us know when you book and we'll arrange options.

Can I combine it with a Wine Tour on the same day?+

Yes, it's one of the most popular combinations. Since the Criollo Horseback Ride ends at 3:30 pm, you can add an afternoon winery tour to round out the day. Ask us about combined packages to get the best price and schedule.

Is it safe for people who have never ridden?+

Yes. The horses are trained specifically for beginners; they're gentle and know the route by heart. The gaucho guide always rides in front, setting the pace. All riders wear a helmet. It's the safest activity among our horseback options.

Where does the ride take place?+

On a rural farm in Maipú, 35 minutes from Mendoza city. The farm has stables, lunch facilities and direct views of the Andean foothills (precordillera). The ride passes through vineyards, olive groves and traditional country lanes.

What if I don't enjoy riding?+

If you realize at the start that it's not for you, you can dismount and enjoy the rest of the day at the farm: asado, wine, lingering at the table. There's no obligation to complete the ride if you don't feel comfortable. The initial instruction lets you try it out before committing.

Is it suitable for children?+

Yes, from age 10. Younger riders get specially selected horses and the guide rides alongside them. For children under 10, we can arrange for them to come to the farm just for the asado and to enjoy the animals without riding.

When is the best time to go horseback riding in Mendoza?+

Spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) are the best seasons: ideal weather, green vegetation, sunshine without extreme heat. In summer we ride early in the morning to avoid the strong sun. In winter you can still ride, with warm clothing. We only cancel for rain.

How long is the Criollo Horseback Ride?+

The full tour lasts 6 hours. We leave Mendoza at 9:30 am, reach the farm around 10:15 am, ride from 10:45 am to 12:15 pm, have lunch until 2 pm with time to linger at the table, and return to Mendoza around 3:30 pm.
